Leaders And Growth
Jack Welch of GE fame once said, “Before you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself. When you become a leader, success is all about growing others”.
I’m cool with this, but I’d add … “while continuing to grow yourself.”
Successful leadership growth is all about learning … teaching / coaching … and continuing to learn so that you have more to teach / coach.
In the spirit of the above, my leadership tip for you this week is to perform a self – evaluation on your level of success as a leader. Take some time to think about this topic and ask yourself these questions:
1. What are the 3 to 5 things I’m doing to contribute to the professional growth and development of all of my direct reports … and / or my entire organization.
2. What are the 3 – things I am doing today that are contributing to my professional growth and development as a leader.
If you are satisfied with the responses to these questions, congratulations you are on the right track for successful leadership.
If you think your responses these to these questions are good, but you’re not sure, send them to me and I’ll evaluate them for you – no charge … it’s one of the things I do to contribute to the professional growth and development of others.
Enjoy your leadership journey !
